About the Artist
Franziska Daniels-Aurousseau lives with her husband in Switzerland. She
was born in Japan and grew up in Europe in a multi-cultural,
multi-lingual environment. She is keenly interested in the creative
work of people living in non-industrial cultures. She is also generally
interested in understanding their lifestyles and situations, and their
often close relationships with nature.
She also feels very connected
herself to nature. As an artist, she is especially captivated by what
she feels is the visual poetry created by the interplay of light with
nature's geologic forms and with living things. In addition, she feels
that we have an obligation to our children and future generations to
respect and preserve our natural environment.
About her paintings
In her paintings, she tries to express her thoughts, feelings and
concerns about nature and its essence in fundamental ways that can be
appreciated across cultural boundaries.
Along with formal studies in literature and languages, and also editing
of scientific publications, she has had a long-term involvement in the
visual arts. In her painting, she has spent much time in independent
study of diverse techniques. Most important, though, is the time she
spends experimenting with media on her own. She uses a variety of
surfaces and materials.
Her works are on canvas, pressed-recycled wood, aquarelle paper and
sometimes on natural objects. She uses and combines acrylic paint,
Japanese calligraphy inks, powdered and liquid pigments and
watercolors. For textural effects, she combines these media with
charcoal, wood ash, sands and gravels. Some of her newest works are
closer to sculpture and are created entirely from collections of
natural objects arranged in unusual ways.
